currently listening to: "battle cry of the west" (acoustic) - beulah

things that i did today:

i rode the light rail train to and from school today. i haven't taken it to school in a while, but things are exactly the way i remember it. at 3 PM, the light rail is packed. people pile in and out of every stop it makes. at the bay point station, the same group of asian ladies get on every afternoon. they're usually all covered in layers of thick jackets, have their hair permed, and carry their purse on their elbow. for the most part, the ride is usually pretty quiet until the group of asian ladies get on because then they've got a riot of laughter and probable gossip going on. an old chinese man sat next to me too. he walked with a cane, wore buddy holly-type glasses, and had a beard like those wise old chinese men in those early chinese dynasty kung fu movies. sometimes i wished i could take portraits of these people. they'd make wonderful subjects.

i wrote a letter on the light rail today too. i wrote it and mailed it all in the same day. snail mail is one of those dying sincere things. it's too bad because getting mail can be really exciting. i like seeing my name on things. it used to make me feel pretty important seeing my name on envelopes, even though the majority of my mail consists of credit card companies eagerly waiting for me to sign my soul away to them, and shady organizations telling me that i should be some student ambassador.

things that have happened last week up until now:

- last friday i went to see the upright citizens brigade improv comedy show in san francisco. i got to see horatio sans, amy poehler, and rachel dratch from SNL. i stared and smiled at amy poehler like a creepy fan without saying anything, and then i popped my head in for the picture. yeah, we're best friends now.
- last week someone hit the front bumper of my car in a parking lot. but as he backed out, my bumper miraculously popped back into place. the cards must be in my favor this time.
- for once i have a normal art history professor. we've been watching 1950 sci-fi movie remakes done in the 1980s of the blob, and the thing. the blob was more entertaining in terms of cheesiness with the pudding-like substance attacking innocent bystanders. i started snickering as soon as the film started. contemporary art seems like an interesting class already.
- i challenged that digital applications class, and i challenged that sucker good. i deserve major propz, so can i get a what what? yeah, okay that was really bad. but you could raise the roof with me... or whichever of the spectacularly ghetto two you choose to do is fine with me.
- a homeless person said hi to me today and told me that i looked nice. he probably wanted some money in return for the compliment, but i took it as it was and smiled and kept walking. sometimes you need something like a little picker-upper, even if it is a slightly creepy compliment from a possibly crazy bum.

thoughts as of late:

- i have really bad luck and never ever in my entire life i will i ever win those name drawings out of a hat. stupid hat.
- i like my classes a lot. i am currently taking: intermediate graphic design, issues in contemporary art, psychology of prejudice, and general oceanography. hoorah!
- morning radio talk show hosts are not funny at all. so really, they should turn to jokebooks or something. they have to try harder if they're going to wake up grumpy morning commuters. i'd recommend the "101 (insert witty subject here) jokes jokebook" but i'm still working on getting laughs myself.
- i must scream fobby or extremely chinese if every chinese christian club member forces a flyer onto me and begins speaking rapidly in mandarin. i don't even know what they're saying! umm, no?
- dodging sorority flyers could be a good thing, i think because it means that they must think i'm cool enough to be getting one.
